Removing instance by dbca method in Oracle 19c Windows

Environment:

Operating System: Windows 11 Pro

Oracle Database: 19.0.0.0

Note:

Please note that database should be running while deleting instance otherwise this will result in partial delete of the database.

Type "Windows + R" in search box and type "services.msc" to open services screen.

You can see the service "OracleServiceTEST" has to be deleted. It is not running. Lets see what error message it throughs.

Right click "command prompt" and run as administrator.

Type dbca to open Graphical User Interface Console to delete the Oracle instance.

By default, it will ask to create the database. You have to select the option "Delete database".

The below screen will list out the database instances configured in the existing Oracle Home. Select the database instance to be deleted.

You have to type sys user password as well to proceed the instance deletion. Click NEXT to continue.

Since our Oracle database instance service is not running, it is asking to continue by clicking YES or click NO to cancel and start the database instance and then proceed with this screen.

Here, I am cancelling the current operation by clicking NO and start the service.

Right Click the OracleServiceTEST and start the service.

Now you can see the service is running. You can also verify the database instance is open.

Again go the previous instance deletion screen and click NEXT to continue.

Below screen will show you the files to be deleted as a part of instance deletion activity.

- data files

- temp files

- controlfiles

- OLRs (Online Redo Log Files)

- SRLs (Standby Redo Logs)

Below screen will give you the final option again to decide whether you want to really delete the database instance or not. At this point also, you can cancel the deletion operation if you want to do.

Click YES to continue to drop the database.
